Musicians support group

Being a musician is hard! Singer-songwriter and board certified music therapist, Morgan Johnston, understands that… That’s why she created this support group for musicians of all levels from amateur to professional, who typically create music to now create support for each other.

Each meeting will open with an arts activity, reading, or prompt, be followed by a group discussion, and end with goal setting for your craft the upcoming month. The topics within this will range from writer’s block, finding your creative community, collaboration, perfectionism, starting (and also finishing) your work, making a living as an artist, performance anxiety, self worth when sharing your work with others, getting back to the joy of playing as a child, and whether or not you’re even “enough” of a musician to join this group (hint: you are :) ). Through community, individuals will process, both verbally and artistically, the mental health issues that come with being a creative soul. Please note that this group is not intended to be a substitute for therapy. As long as being an musician is hard, at least we can do it together!

This fall, we’re meeting on Sundays from 6-8PM at the Music Mansion in Providence, RI. There will also be a showcase about our work together, including destigmatizing mental health in and through the arts, in June. You're encouraged to join for all of the meetings as part of us creating the most supportive and consistent community possible! As the meetings will be held in a small group setting, please email morganjohnstonmusic@gmail.com answering the question, "Why would you like to join the musicians support group?" as your application if you’re interested in joining.
